To open a bail bond office, you will need to be appointed by an insurance company in order to write bail. Once appointed, you must present a Qualifying power of attorney to the county clerk and the sheriff's office in the county you wish to write bail in. You will need to re-register every two years in the same way in each county you are appointed in.

Your Surety will provide you will paperwork called a "Power of Attorney" or "Powers" as they are normally called. These are the necessary paperwork needed to write a bail bond. Depending on your situation with your insurance company, you will need to comply with the commission rate and Build-Up Fund set forth in your contact.
